September 16, 2013—Craftsbury Common, Vermont—Pioneering restoration agriculture practitioner and author Mark Shepard will be giving a talk at Sterling College on September 23, from 6-8 p.m. in Simpson Hall Room 3. His talk is entitled “Annual Agriculture, Ecological Collapse, and the Call for Restoration Agriculture Farmers.”
Restoration agriculture combines agricultural production and ecological restoration with the purpose of growing abundant and nutritious food, while simultaneously restoring healthy ecosystems. Shepard practices what he preaches as the CEO of Forest Agriculture Enterprises, and owner of New Forest Farm, the 106-acre perennial agriculture farm that is considered to be one of the most ambitious sustainable agriculture projects in the United States.
