Learn How to Self-Publish at The Craftsbury Public Library
With forty years of wilderness canoe trips as his subject, Dave Brown has amassed an extraordinary collection of photographs of a world few people have the opportunity to see. His slideshows have a large and loyal following, but until recently, most of his photographs have only occasionally been shared with a wider audience. With the advent of digital photography and self-publishing opportunities, Dave Brown began a new project to make his photographs more widely available.
He approached this project as he does any other project, with a methodical intent to master the skills necessary to do the highest quality work possible. In addition to combing through his multitude of photographs, he also researched self-publishing companies, and learned about layout and design. For over a year he gathered the material, chose his publisher, and designed a photography book to showcase some of his favorite images from his many trips. The result is a beautiful work of art.
His project complete, Dave Brown will share his experience in learning the ins and outs of self-publishing with the community at the Craftsbury Public Library on Sunday, April 27 at 7PM. Dave will be joined by Stark Biddle, who has also used a self-publishing company to produce two books for his family, one a memoir and one a travel book. Stark's book was mostly text, and Dave's book was mostly photographs, so although they used the same publishing company, their process was different to produce the work they wanted. All three books will be available for viewing during the program.
