Author Timothy Breen will discuss his book “American Insurgents, American Patriots” on September 10th at 7:00 PM at the Greensboro Free Library.

His book explains how ordinary Americans –most of them farm families living in small communities—were drawn into a successful insurgency against imperial authority. It was these people who sparked the revolution by resisting Parliamentary rule and forming committees of safety or inspection. They were motivated by feelings of anger, injury and injustice, stoked by religious beliefs and not abstract political theories.  Drawing upon local source documents, Breen builds a mosaic representation of the popular mood and the escalating willingness to take up arms and the role of evangelical religion in motivating revolutionary resistance. He explains how the committees of safety played a central role in developing a republic and drew newcomers into the political process.

on Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00 pm at the Greensboro Free Library. Come listen to the discussion and the role of ordinary people in founding our nation. Call Mary Metcalf, Librarian, at 533-2531 for more information.
